Welcome to The Better Me Manifesto. At the age of 35, I decided to do three things that would have been unthinkable to me a few years before:

  • Avoid meat at most meals
  • Start running obstacle races
  • Dedicate real effort to building the best possible life

And, for the most part, I’m doing the first two.

Meat has been consigned to the weekend – and not every weekend – while I took part in my first Spartan Race Sprint earlier in early 2016.

The plan is to compete in multiple events a year – not just obstacle races but 30-day challenges, marathons, wild swims, epic hikes, whatever can push me to my limits.

All fuelled (mostly) through delicious meat-free recipes, using ingredients that I’m trying to grow myself.

The third aim – trying to figure out the manifesto for a happy life – is a more complicated project. After spending most of my life ‘in my head’, paying more attention to health & fitness has made a big difference in how happy I feel.

But there’s more to a happy life than being able to run an obstacle race. Part of this whole project means looking at the other stuff too – building new skills, connecting better with the people around me, being fulfilled at work, reading and watching the right media.
